On 21st November, Penang Green Council has successfully organised the Green Pinang Awards Presentation Ceremony 2019 to reward and recognize efforts of individuals, schools, businesses or organisations which have contributed to the environment of Penang.
1. Penang Green School Award
Penang Green School Award is an annual environmental audit programme for both primary and secondary schools in Penang, launched by the Penang State Government in 2010. It aims to educate not only the students, teachers but also the communities within and around the school on the importance of environmental conservation and protection. The programme is a collaboration programme with both Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP). We have a total of 241 schools that joined in this program this year.
2. Penang Green Kindy Incentive
Green Kindy is an audit program for kindergartens in Penang, aimed to instill awareness among the kids ranging from 4-6 years old to care for the environment. The programme kick started in January 2019 and we awards the first 10 successful applicants.
3. Penang Green Office Certification + Aqua Save Certification
The real deal in the office. An Assessment tool to help your office adopt sustainability principles, aimed at helping you and your company save energy, coasts, and most importantly the environment. This year 43 companies are certified as Penang Green Office, bringing up the total of offices certified to 129 as of 2019. Since 2015, Penang Green Office Project has collaborated with Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang Sdn Bhd to incorporate Aqua Save in the certification. Aqua Save is a program to recognise water efficiency of an organisation.
4. Penang Green Journalism Award
The Penang Green Journalism Award recognise the best in-depth reporting on Green, Sustainability & Environmental issues in Penang to educate and empower the communities in Penang with more knowledge on these issues. This year, we received more than 90 submissions for these awards!
