Make Your Everyday a Sustainable Day

Sustainable Day is a day dedicated to being sustainable and rethinking our rituals. Although some celebrate it on the 4 th Wednesday of October, just like how people would celebrate Earth Day in April. However, we prefer to celebrate it daily because it needs to be celebrated every day.

“Sustainable” translates to “to be maintained for a very long time”, which is exactly our goal, to be able to take care of the planet forever. Unfortunately, the harm has been made to our planet and we need to restore and conserve it as much and as soon as we can now. Human being is the only living creature that pollutes and harm our planet with our creation. Therefore, it is also our mission to fix the problems and make sure that our Mother Earth is able to sustain for a long time.

Believe it or not, now is the most important decade that we could make the change before it is too late. Being sustainable is easy, it is all about choices and consistency. So, how can we sustain our planet? In general, as an individual, try to be as wise and choose products that are eco-friendly and generate zero waste. Next, practise Refuse, Reduce, Repair, Reuse, and Recycle. Don’t forget to always bring your own reusable items such as shopping bags and containers. Every decision we make today will affect the world for sure, so think carefully and choose the right one, not the convenient one.

Next, what we can do is to educate and influence the people around us, be the inspiration that change people’s mindset and behaviour. Advocating is not an easy job but someone has to start it somewhere. Sustainable practice is a long-term process which should be continued and become better in the future. So, take the lead and be the change.

In conclusion, in order to meet our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, sustainability should be an action, not just an idea. “Save energy, buy less, help the wild lives, stop the pollution, reduce your carbon footprint!” We have heard enough of these. Remember, individually, we are one drop; together, we are an ocean. Let’s stop talking about it, let’s just do it.

Happy Sustainability Day!
